Small Colourful Australian Shrubs for our Garden

I'm planning on gradually buying the list of small colourful Australian shrubs offered by Linda Niemann from State Flora I heard on one of the gardening programs on the ABC gardening program in late July.

Although the list was for small gardens, most of the plants suited areas with some shade and would work well in our garden as all the larger shrubs are in place. What we really need are hardy small shrubs and groundcovers.

  • Astartea 'winter pink' - 0.5m x 1m - pink flowers
  • Babingtonia bidwillii dwarf form - 0.5m - 1m x 1m - white flowers
  • Boronia coerulescens - 0.5m x 0.5m - blue flowers
  • Callistemon viminalis 'Little John' - 1m x 1m - burgundy flowers
  • Calothamnus quadrifidus dwarf - 1m x 1m - red flowers
  • Chamelaucium ciliatum - 1m x 1m - white to deep pink
  • Chorizema cordatum - 0.5m - 1m x 1m - orange/red/yellow pea
  • Correa pulchella nana orange - 0.4m x 0.4m - orange bell flowers
  • Eremophila maculata ssp brevifolia - 0.5m -1m x 1m - bright red /pink flowers
  • Eutaxia microphylla - 0.5m x 1m - yellow/brown flowers
  • Glischrocaryon behrii - 0.2m - 1m x 1m - yellow flowers
  • Grevillea lavandulacea - 0.5m x 1m - 'Mt Lofty, Monarto and O'Sullivans Beach' forms - red/pink flowers
  • Hibbertia sericea - 0.5m x 1m - yellow flowers
  • Hypocalymma xanthopetalum - 0.5m - 1m x 1m - yellow flowers
  • Stemodia florulenta - 0.5m x 0.5m - blue flowers
  • Ajuga australis - 0.2m x 1m - pink or blue flowers
  • Lechenaultia formosa - 0.5m x 0.5m - orange & scarlet flowers
  • Scaevola albida - 0.4m x 0.6m - white fan flowers
  • Diplarrena moroea - 0.3m x 0.5m - white iris like flowers
  • Patersonia occidentalis - 0.5m x 0.5m - purple flag flowers

The ABC is a brilliant website packed with information on many different topics, well worth browsing every now and then.
