Useful Animal Information and Resources

Animals are an integral part of our permaculture design. We consider our property unsuitable for keeping large animals as it's only 4.5 acres and we've set aside an acre for bush regeneration and another acre for the orchard. Smaller animals, including poultry, serve our purposes better.

When placing animals in our system we've considered the intrinsic nature of the animals, their particular needs, and how they can help us 'farm' and develop our property. Animals are clever and useful workers, though careful planning is essential to ensure they don't end up destroying all our hard work!

The following table shows how we've placed our animals according to the permaculture principle of zones. Click on the animal for more information about their usefulness in our permaculture garden.
